Cross
Restoration Technical Information
|
Sometimes they only need cleaned. I used a wet towel with a string tied to both ends and
washed them off. They looked pretty good. |
|
The Crosses are made Of California Douglas Fir and are set in pea
gravel and sand. Try not to lean
or climb them. They weigh approximately 400 # each. They
need 2 coats of paint. It will take 2 gallons of paint - one blue, one gold It
was Coffindaffer's plan for workers to revisit each site for straightening
and painting every two years… |

Other Items you will need
include: (1) 3" Roller -
preferably lambs wool (2) 20’ Extension Pole, (From the
paint store or Robert Clarke used a swimming pool pole to which he attached a
5' wooden handle to the pole with two wood screws and screwed the 3"
roller on the end.) (3) Step Ladder
(4) Wedges to straighten the Crosses
if they are leaning, One or two wedges and a rope. To straighten a leaning cross,
toss the rope between the X and use as leverage. Pull on the rope and drive a
wedge to hold the cross. Add
more wedges if needed. This
should last a log time. I
straightened the Crosses on Faith road outside of Faith, NC about 5 years ago
and they are still standing straignt. As you are doing the Lord's work, please say a prayer. A consecration
service was held at the creation of the Crosses and you will be standing on Holy Ground
God bless you for being
faithful to His Crosses |
